Puppy Manners

Puppy manners is open to puppies aged 1 year and younger, but recommended for puppies aged 6 months or younger. Skills covered in puppy manners include sit, down, walking on a loose leash, stay, come, standing for handling, and puppy push-ups. Also included is owner education on topics such as house training, toys, feeding, and other important topics. There is also a focus on fixing and preventing problem behaviors such as jumping on guests and running out open doors. Puppies successfully completing this course receive AKC STAR puppy certification!

Puppy manners classes run for 7 weeks. Cost $75.00, $70.00 with 4-H discount

Beginners

Beginners is open to puppies and dogs aged 6 months and older. Skills covered in beginners include heeling, figure 8, sit, down, stand for examination, stay, and recall, all on leash. Also included are lessons in general manners and fixing problem behaviors. Puppies under 1 year successfully completing this course receive AKC STAR puppy certification!

Beginners classes run for 9 weeks. Cost $100.00, $90.00 with 4-H discount

AKC Canine Good Citizens

This seven week class provides education for the pet owner and dog to create a partnership that will help your dog be a “good citizen” at home and out and about.  We will cover all stations of the AKC Canine Good Citizen test, and there will be an optional Canine Good Citizen evaluation offered on a weekend at the culmination of the class.  Dogs that pass the evaluation qualify to receive a Canine Good Citizen certificate from AKC upon application.  This class is taught by an AKC Canine Good Citizen evaluator.

Canine Good Citizens classes run for 7 weeks.  Cost $70.00

Rear-end Awareness

This class departs from traditional obedience format to focus exclusively on rear-end awareness.  Most dogs don’t even realize that they have back legs!  This class will work on skills to develop strength, coordination, and balance in the rear end.  It’s a fantastic way to bond with your dog for the pet owner, and critical for anyone looking to compete in any performance events.  This class will teach the skills necessary for heeling, focus, turns, and fronts for the obedience or rally dog and strength and coordination for climbing and jumping for the agility  dog. We will work on front foot targeting, rear foot targeting, elevated pivots, pivots in front and heel, ladder work, plank walking, pickup sticks exercise, sideways fronts, backwards circles, and more! Open to dogs/puppies that have had at least one obedience class.

Rear-end Awareness runs for 8 weeks.  Cost $90.00.

Tricks & Games I

A fun new way to bond and spend quality time with your dog or puppy!  Teach your dog to spin right and left, bow, speak, play hide and seek, roll a ball, and much more!  This curriculum also focuses on fitness and building core strength.  Open to dogs/puppies that have had at least one obedience class.

Tricks & Games I runs for 6 weeks.  Cost $65.00.  Minimum enrollment of 3 dogs is required or class will be cancelled.

Tricks & Games II

A fun new way to bond and spend quality time with your dog or puppy!  Teach your dog advanced tricks such as covering eyes, hiding head, “doing math”, and much more!  This curriculum also focuses on fitness and building core strength.  Open to dogs/puppies that have had Tricks & Games I.

Tricks & Games II runs for 6 weeks.  Cost $65.00.

Novice

Novice is open to dogs that have completed a puppy manners or beginners course, or can successfully demonstrate on leash control. Skills covered in novice include on leash heeling and Figure 8, off leash heeling, off leash stand for examination, off leash recall, and off leash stays (1 minute sit, 3 minute down). This class will prepare for AKC and other competitive obedience events.  Also great for non-competitive students.

Novice classes run for 9 weeks. Cost $100.00, $90.00 with 4-H discount

Therapy Dog

Therapy Dog is open to dogs that have mastered the novice class as per instructor’s approval, dogs that have received a qualifying score in an AKC, UKC, or similar venue novice obedience class, and dogs that have achieved an RA, RL2, URO2, or higher rally title (or similar 2nd level rally title).  This class prepares the dog and the handler for the Therapy Dog International (TDI) test, but is much more rigorous, with the intention of providing both dog and handler with the knowledge and experiences necessary to truly succeed in a therapy environment.  This class includes weekly homework, including assignments that require modest travel.  Included in the cost of the class is a course binder and printed materials.

Therapy dog classes run for 10 weeks.  Cost $150.00

Open

Open is open to dogs that have completed a novice course or can successfully demonstrate off-leash control. Off leash heeling and Figure 8, drop on recall, and out-of-sight stays are refined. New skills covered include retrieve on flat, retrieve over the high jump, and broad jump. This class will prepare for AKC and other competitive obedience events.

Open classes cost $75.00 for 6 classes, $70.00 with 4-H discount

Utility

Utility is open to dogs that have completed an open course or can successfully demonstrate a formal retrieve and distance control. Skills covered include signal exercises, scent discrimination, directed jumping, directed retrieve, and moving stand. This class will prepare for AKC and other competitive obedience events.

Utility classes cost $20.00 each, $15.00 each with 4-H discount.
